Octo-dog

I saw this one and I thought it was sooo cute. I am originally from Japan and thought I have seen every octodog there is but this one caught my eyes.

Those win the award for "cutest octo-dog" in my book! They look as though they are very happy about being eaten...

If there were only some other tubular food that one could use! I really don't care for hot dogs at all, but the octo-dogs are so neat-looking...

If you aren't into frying, you could cut string cheese that way. You might have to do a little extra carving since there's no frying process to open up the spaces, but it would give you the basic shape. Some kinds of sausage might work too...you could have really fat octo-sages... :)

Have you thought about using fish sausage?
I know it sounds nasty for some of you but I used to eat this
as a snack when I was a little in Japan. I know a lot of moms who do not
feel comfortable feeding their kids hot dogs use fish sausage as a substitute in Japan.
It looks like hot dog and diameter is about 1 inch or even smaller depending on the brand.
Texture is very close to hot dog but it does not taste like hot dog, I think it was more bland than hot dogs.

Pangolin, I love the idea of the string cheese! I get those for my kids as snacks all the time, so they are around. Japanese lady, I think the idea of fish sausage sounds good, but I am in deepest, darkest South Carolina, and there's no place closer than (maybe) Atlanta where I could get some!

I'll definitely experiment in my future lunches, though. Thanks, both of you!!
