I live in New Zealand and any kind of bento gear is very light on the ground. I think we have something similar to the "Lock and Load" boxes that everyone talks about and I saw one the other day that has four compartments in it. I'm so getting some :)

Unfortunately most online stores don't ship to NZ or the postage is way excessive. Its not so much the boxes I'm envious of, but the tools! The egg molds, little cups and bottles, food picks... the list goes on!

I'm in the UK too and use JapanCentre and ebay. If you have any friends who are into bento then bulk ordering from ebay shops does make it more worth it.

SCORE!! 8-)

We went over to H Mart to buy rice and they had Lock & Lock lunch kits in stock again! There were only two left plus the "floor display", so I snagged one. This one has two containers (600 ml each) but one of them has a two compartment insert. There is also a water bottle to fit inside the striped, thermal carrying bag. Too cool!

Jlist ships based on weight, at least here to the US, so if you buy a lot of lightweight items the shipping isn't too bad. But I would agree with the earlier assessment that their boxes are a bit pricey. Although, really you only need one, right? :)

I haven't been brave enough to buy online- I like to feel each box in my hands and look at it. I'm not good with visualization, so I can't picture 350ml in my head. What I might do is figure out how many ml each normal thing in my house is- so I can picture "Oh, it's a deck of cards" or "It's a soda bottle". It's how I watch portion sizes too. *laughs*

I bought alot of containers from the local $1 store. Target and TJ Max has the little silicone cups and molds. I think Walmart did as well. I have not looked recently. Other than that... I just bought Laptop Lunches. If I get into it a bit deeper I am in trouble! I know we don't have anything local!
Happily bentoing for my family....

I've been getting most of my stuff scouring the local grocery stores, $1 stores, Target etc. My 3 "real" bentos are from a friend who is stationed in Japan and was kind enough to send some over along with some great accessories!
I just made my first purchase from Ichiban Kan today! Woo Hoo! I'm so excited!

I find bento gear in all kinds of places. From $1 bins at stores to the Japanese store down the street which occasionally stocks accessories. I more recently put in a large order to Ichibankan and have been thrilled with the things we recieved from them
