How do you organize your bento goodies?

Postby Texasmomof4 » Mon May 04, 2009 12:29 pm

So ladies how do you organize all your bento goodness? I'm determined to reorganize my kitchen to make it as efficient as possible. Any ideas?

I have a cupboard shelf for my most often used bento boxes, 3 each for my husband and myself, the rest go up into a different larger cupboard shelf for the off-chance I would need them. The shelf for the more commonly used boxes s very intentionally within easy reach, so I don't have to crawl up on the cupboard, or bend down to get them. My ice cream sandwich molds go up on that shelf, too (someday I'll find them a real home!!)
All of my other stuff (picks, divders, sauce bottles, onigiri molds, ect....) all are in a little drawer I cleaned out for them. For separation purposes I got these little organizers from Target that you can clip together. I also let my silicone cupcake liners serve double duty. I stack them by color (so I can get the color I want without digging) and use them to hold some of my sauce containers. This is an occasional pain-in-the-butt, but over-all works out fine.
This is the result of the 3rd bento organization I've done.
I do have pictures.... maybe if my brother can fix my computer tomorrow I'll post 'em.

I bought a set of drawers like this one :

(Thanks for the tips, BentoLunches!)
I only have one of them, and if I get enough stuff that it's over-full, my husband will shoot me, so it's plenty for me :P

If I get the REST of my pantry organized so I can see it well enough, I'll get pictures of it :)

The majority of my bento gear is in one cupboard! But since my bento stuff is growing i'll have to buy some drawers or maybe a kitchen cart to make more counter space(or maybe both! hmmm). And then all the little stuff like belts, picks and stuff are in a little drawer set. Some of it is also in the drawer underneath the microwave but its all in the same general area. but i'm gunna re-organize to, so when i get my stuffs together i'll take picks and post.

I keep it pretty simple and gear to a minimum. The bentos and containers that we use regularly in a deeper drawer in a kitchen cabinet. The small stuff goes in the shallower drawer above it in the same cabinet-picks and sauce containers in a small plastic basket. The thermoses that we don't use as often go on a shelf in the garage, just outside the kitchen door. Tupperware type containers, which we use for bentos and other purposes, are in a deep wide bottom cabinet under the space where I pack the bentos. Other things go with their non-bento counterparts-silverware in the back or side of the silverware drawer, the few individual packets of condiments that we have are also in the silverware drawer for easy access. The silverware drawer is right under the counterspace where I pack the bentos and I have my silverware in individual rectangular plastic baskets just wide enough for the silverware so no space is wasted with those molded plastic dividers that IMHO have some not very useful spaces in them. That leaves me plenty of extra space for chopsticks, bento silverware, disposable silverware and some condiment packages, without everything being a mess.
Come visit me at Flickr for bentos that are always gluten-free for mom and kiddo, sometimes casein-free and now always lowcarb for mom.

Thanks for the plug MommaSith !!! :D

Sadly...much to my husband's dismay...the collection has expanded again! He said no more big tower drawers, I said okay (and added small ones instead!)

I use one of those shoe organizers that hang over the door. It is on the inside of my pantry door.
