I've recently gotten hooked on making moffles - that's mochi heated in a waffle iron. The moffles come out crunchy and chewy. While I love it the traditional way of eating mochi with soy sauce, sugar and kinako, I've now discovered the joys of butter and maple syrup! It then occured to me that this is a perfect dish for my niece and friends who are dealing with gluten allergies. I'm also thinking that this would be tasty with curry or chili or stew.

Mochi is pounded rice cakes (or rectangles) that can be found in Japanese food stores in the winter time.

They sound intersting... I'll have to remember to try this nest time I make a run to the asian grocery!
