Bento of the Month Contest: My Valentine (2/09)

Postby QChan » Mon Feb 09, 2009 4:21 pm

Welcome bento-ers!

For this month our contest theme is going to be "My Valentine"!

Same as last time, make the bento you feel best suits the theme, make it look tasty, and then make a post in here with your entry(And possibly a small description of what you made)!

You have 2 weeks to submit an entry, the contest will close on Monday February 23rd.

We have a prize this time round again, it was generously donated by Lethargic(Thanks so much!)

Here's a picture of it:

We have a putrifresh green grape double tiered bento box with matching chopsticks with case, bag, and bento band. Its all brand new, and still in the plastic packaging.

Any questions? Ask me I'm nice.

Have fun and get building!

Just posted this on the main blog; I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with for Valentine's Day lunches!

If you're not sure about how to post a photo here, have a look at this how-to post.

Looks like I'm first to post an entry again. At least this time I figured out how to insert the photo :)
This is actually my second Valentine's bento and I had a tough time deciding which one to enter.

I've been wanting to make this frog for a while now. I've been drawing him since I was a kid so naturally I needed to make him into a bento. I colored the rice with fresh spinach juice and decorated him with nori. For the sky I was trying for blue and I used steamed red cabbage then mixed it with baking soda to turn it blue and tossed it in shiitake sesame vinaigrette. It turned out too dark, I will try something different for the sky next time. under the broccoli is sauteed beef strips. I decorated with egg and smoked sausage flowers, various beet, carrot, golden beet and baby corn flowers. The butterfly is some really cool pasta I found. There are a bunch of different colors like yellow/black, orange/black, purple/black etc. They are really bright colors but they fade when cooked. They are still cool. The sign is on a slice of ham and I finally got to use my new mini letter punches! They work great. I first tried to do the letters out of carrot. The letters themselves worked well but I ended up doing them out of nori so they would show up better. Little one loved eating this bento!

I married last summer, so I'm still a bit in a romantic mood sometimes!
I wanted to create penguins that stand before the altar, to marry :)
Last night I worked on it for an hour, esspecially the sesame seeds took a long time....

I made it with mashed potatoe, olives, creamcheese, egg, black sesame seeds and 1 leaf of lettuce.
My new website (although its completly in Dutch) is: http://www.bento-babe.nl, I hope you all enjoy looking at the pictures!!

2 close-ups:
